Eco-Friendly Cleaning Hacks: Sustainable Solutions for a Sparkling Home

Posted by Mindi Brock on

In today's world, where environmental consciousness is on the rise, many of us are seeking ways to make our daily routines more sustainable. Cleaning our homes is no exception. By adopting eco-friendly cleaning hacks, we can reduce our carbon footprint, minimize exposure to harmful chemicals, and create a healthier living environment.

Making your own cleaning solutions allows you to become more knowledgeable about the ingredients you are using and their properties. By incorporating DIY cleaning solutions into your cleaning routine, you can contribute to a greener and healthier home while enjoying the benefits of cost savings, reduced waste, and a more sustainable lifestyle.

In this blog, we will explore a collection of practical and effective eco-friendly cleaning hacks to help you maintain a sparkling home while being kind to the planet.

Reusable Cleaning Tools: Invest in reusable cleaning tools such as UNpaper® Towels,  Scrap Felt Mop Pads, Cleaning Cloth, Scrap Felt Dish Cloth, or  refillable Spray Bottles. By reducing your dependence on single-use cleaning supplies, you minimize waste and contribute to a more sustainable cleaning routine.
All-Purpose Cleaner: Mix equal parts distilled white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Optionally, add a few drops of essential oils like lemon, lavender, or tea tree oil for a pleasant scent. Shake well before use. This solution is great for cleaning countertops, surfaces, and glass with an UNpaper® TowelsCloth Wipes, or Washable Sponge.
Window and Glass Cleaner: In a spray bottle, combine 1 cup distilled water, 1 cup rubbing alcohol, and 1 tablespoon white vinegar. Shake well before use. Spray onto windows or glass surfaces and wipe with an UNpaper® Towel for streak-free results.
Grease Cutter: In a glass Spray Bottle, mix 2 tablespoons of dish soap with 2 cups of warm water. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda for extra grease-cutting power. Shake well before use. Spray onto greasy surfaces, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wipe clean.
Floor Cleaner: In a bucket, combine ¼ cup white vinegar, 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap, and 2 gallons of warm water. Optionally, add a few drops of essential oils for fragrance. Use this solution along with a Scrap Felt Mop Pad on hard floors, like tile or linoleum.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner: Sprinkle baking soda into the toilet bowl. Pour white vinegar over the baking soda and let it fizz. Scrub the bowl using a Toilet Brush and flush.

Remember to test these solutions on a small, inconspicuous area before using them on delicate or sensitive surfaces. Also, avoid mixing vinegar-based solutions with bleach or commercial cleaning products, as it can create harmful fumes.

With these eco-friendly cleaning hacks, you can maintain a spotless home while being mindful of your environmental impact. By harnessing the power of natural ingredients, reducing waste, and making conscious choices, you can create a cleaner, healthier living space for yourself and your loved ones. Embrace these sustainable cleaning practices and enjoy the satisfaction of a sparkling home, knowing that you are doing your part to protect the planet.

Remember, small changes in our cleaning habits can make a big difference in the long run.
